Big, bold, and smoky — this burger is all Texas. Mixing our Smoky Mesquite Chipotle Sauce right into the patties gives you juicy, flavorful burgers with that mesquite depth and chipotle heat. Top it off with avocado and pepper jack for a backyard classic that’s anything but ordinary.
Ingredients
-
1 ½ pounds ground beef (or ground turkey for a lighter option)
-
½ cup Texan Heartland Smoky Mesquite Chipotle Sauce (plus extra for topping)
-
1 teaspoon salt
-
½ teaspoon black pepper
-
4 slices pepper jack cheese
-
1 ripe avocado, sliced
-
4 burger buns, lightly toasted
-
Lettuce and tomato slices (optional)
Directions
Mix the patties: In a medium bowl, combine ground beef, ½ cup of Texan Heartland Smoky Mesquite Chipotle Sauce, salt, and pepper. Gently mix until just combined — don’t overwork the meat. Form into 4 equal patties.
Grill or pan-sear: Preheat grill or skillet over medium-high heat. Cook patties 4–5 minutes per side, or until desired doneness (160°F internal for ground beef).
Add cheese: Place a slice of pepper jack on each patty during the last minute of cooking. Cover briefly to melt.
Assemble the burgers: Spread extra Texan Heartland Smoky Mesquite Chipotle Sauce on toasted buns. Layer lettuce and tomato if using, then add the burger patty. Top with avocado slices.
Serve and enjoy: Pair with fries, chips, or a side salad — and maybe a cold beer for the full backyard experience.
Recipe Note
Try swapping avocado for grilled onions, or serve slider-sized versions at your next gathering.
